Wusongkou cruise terminal to the correct Shanghai airport
Use the free port shuttle plus Metro if saving money matters most and you have ample time: the onward adult Metro fare from Baoyang Road is RMB 8 to Pudong Airport or RMB 6 to Hongqiao Airport. For heavy bags or difficulty changing trains, ask port staff for the licensed taxi queue. Below are both airport routes, the pickup names and Chinese cards to show staff and drivers.
Safe, inexpensive transfer after disembarkation
The original traveller speaks little Chinese or English and has not named the airport. Before leaving the ship, copy the flight’s airport code and terminal onto one of the cards below: PVG is Pudong; SHA is Hongqiao. Keep the flight number and airline booking confirmation beside it. Hongqiao Railway Station is not Hongqiao Airport.
Find the correct pickup after the ship releases you
Step-by-step instructions
- Complete port entry checks, collect your luggage, then clear Customs. Begin the ground-transfer clock only when you are landside with all bags; the ship’s scheduled docking time is not the time you can enter a car.
- For a taxi, follow the signs to your cruise terminal’s P1 or P4 pickup/parking area and ask staff for 出租车候客点. The port says taxis wait in the parking area. Do not guess P1 versus P4 from the ship name: the terminal’s current signs control.
- For an app/private car, obtain or photograph the port’s daily pickup-code instructions before leaving the port interior. Set the pickup to the indicated P1/P4 area, send the code through the app as required, and match the vehicle plate. If the code/app fails, return to the staffed taxi queue.
- For the cheap route, follow 免费接驳车 signs and show 宝杨路地铁站. The free departure shuttle stops at 海上世界 and then Metro Line 3宝杨路站: stay on for Baoyang Road. Shuttle intervals are not published in the port guide, so allow waiting.

I speak little Chinese or English. Please point me to this cruise terminal’s licensed taxi queue, or the free shuttle to Baoyang Road Metro Line 3. My airport and flight are on the attached ticket.
PVG: Pudong Airport, Terminal 1 or Terminal 2
Choice: Lowest-cost route with one Metro change
Route: Free port shuttle→宝杨路; Line 3 toward上海南站; change at中山公园 to Line 2 toward浦东1号2号航站楼; at the airport station follow your T1/T2 departure signs
Time and money: RMB 8 per adult for Metro; port shuttle free. Typical planning allowance 3 hours from port landside to airport check-in; use 3.5 hours conservatively.
Choice: Fewer luggage transfers
Route: Licensed taxi from the signed P1/P4 queue directly to浦东国际机场[1/2]号航站楼出发层
Time and money: About 90 minutes as a rough normal road allowance; budget 120 minutes driving plus up to 30 minutes pickup/queue conservatively. Fare is metered; see calculated examples below.
The official Metro planner gives about 134 minutes from Baoyang Road to the airport via Line 3/2 with one change. Our 3-hour allowance adds shuttle access/wait and terminal walking. A faster official alternative is Line 3 to长江南路, Line 18 southbound (next stop殷高路) to龙阳路, then Line 2 toward浦东1号2号航站楼: the same RMB 8, about 100 minutes station to station in the checked example. Use that only if two changes are manageable with your luggage; the one-change route is easier to explain with a card. Source 2.

SHA: Hongqiao Airport, Terminal 1 or Terminal 2
| Choice | Actions and conditions |
|---|---|
Choice: Metro to either SHA terminal | Route: Free port shuttle→宝杨路; Line 3 toward上海南站; change at虹桥路 to Line 10 toward虹桥火车站; leave at虹桥1号航站楼 for T1 or the next stop虹桥2号航站楼 for T2 Time and money: RMB 6 per adult; shuttle free. About 2 hours from port landside to airport check-in; use 2.5 hours conservatively. Do not board the Line 10 branch for航中路. |
Choice: T2 alternative with a simple line change | Route: Line 3 from宝杨路 toward上海南站; change at中山公园 to Line 2 toward蟠祥路·国家会计学院 and leave at虹桥2号航站楼 Time and money: RMB 6; official planner about 77 minutes station to station. This route does not serve T1. |
Choice: Fewer luggage transfers
Route: Licensed taxi from the signed P1/P4 queue directly to虹桥国际机场[1/2]号航站楼出发层
Time and money: About 60 minutes as a rough normal road allowance; budget 90 minutes driving plus up to 30 minutes pickup/queue conservatively. Fare is metered.
The official planner gives 69 minutes from Baoyang Road to SHA T1 via Line 3/10. T2 is one further stop on Line 10; allow additional train and terminal walking time. The port shuttle and queues explain why the full allowance is longer than the train journey. Keep the terminal card visible until the airport signs match it. Sources 2–3.

Taxi costs: a meter calculation, not a promised pickup price
Shanghai’s standard city-taxi tariff starts at RMB 14 for 3 km, then RMB 2.70/km up to 15 km and RMB 4.05/km beyond 15 km. Certain vehicles start at RMB 16. At 23:00–05:00 the night increase is 30%; waiting/slow traffic, permitted peak/holiday adjustments and tolls can add cost. District or accessible taxis may use different rates. Ask which tariff applies before leaving. Source 4.

Night examples are the daytime distance-only calculation multiplied by 1.30, rounded to whole yuan. They approximate the published 30%night surcharge; they do not simulate the meter’s rounding, a trip crossing the night-time boundary, or waiting charges. These examples let you compare a live taxi/app estimate with the RMB 6/8 Metro option; they are not fixed distances or fares for either airport. Actual terminal, route, car, congestion and surcharges determine the bill. A city taxi is charged per vehicle, while Metro is per person. If a proposed cash price is unclear or the driver will not use the stated meter, ask port staff to help before boarding. Keep RMB cash available as a fallback and retain the receipt.
Work backwards from your own flight
Use the conservative ground allowance above, then aim to reach airport check-in 3 hours before an international flight or 2 hours before a domestic flight; use more if your airline requires it. These are our planning allowances, not a universal airline cutoff. For a taxi after port clearance, that means roughly 5.5 hours before an international PVG departure or 5 hours before an international SHA departure. For Metro, allow about 6.5 hours before international PVG or 5.5 hours before international SHA. Domestic examples are one hour shorter.
Example: if you are actually cleared with bags at 09:00, the conservative taxi plan reaches PVG around 11:30 or SHA around 11:00. With a 3-hour international-airport allowance, that points to flights from 14:30 at PVG or 14:00 at SHA. It does not prove an earlier flight impossible or promise these later flights are safe. Before purchasing, compare the ship’s expected disembarkation window and your exact airline deadline; late port release can consume any margin.
Road anchors come from Royal Caribbean’s public airport-to-port guidance (about 90 minutes from PVG and 60 minutes from SHA). We use them only as rough normal budgets for the reverse journey and add queue/traffic allowances; they are not a current traffic measurement. For Metro near closing, have staff check the whole route before boarding: a running Line 3 train alone does not prove the airport connection is still available. Sources 2,3 and 5.
Use these fallbacks without another search
- Shuttle absent or the queue uses your flight margin: take the signed licensed taxi option. If saving most of the fare still matters, a taxi only to宝杨路地铁站 can replace the shuttle; ask for the metered price and continue on the route above.
- Wrong train or missed interchange: leave at the next station and show the destination card to station staff. Avoid adding a rushed unfamiliar connection when the flight margin is already short.
- Phone/app/payment failure: use the staffed taxi queue and the printed Chinese card. Do not leave in a private car offered by someone approaching you in arrivals.
- Late disembarkation or major road disruption: contact your airline/issuer about the onward flight while port staff help with transport. A cruise arrival does not automatically protect a separately booked flight; do not ask a driver to make up the delay by speeding.
- Airport code or terminal still missing: have ship/port staff read the actual flight confirmation and fill the card before you depart. “Shanghai airport” is not a usable destination.
Checked 13 September 2026. Personal variables still to fill: airport/terminal, flight date and time, actual clearance time, party size, luggage and mobility needs. Current taxi quote, port pickup allocation and shuttle dispatch remain live variables.
