One garden, two separate temple visits

1. Mountain Resort · 避暑山庄 is the main reason to stay: modest-looking imperial halls open into a large landscape of lake islands, bridges, grassland and forested slopes. Allow 5–7 hours for a chosen circuit, rather than trying to touch every pavilion. This is Chengde's summer retreat, a different place from Beijing's Summer Palace / 颐和园.

2. Little Potala · 普陀宗乘之庙 gives you the red-and-white terrace, an uphill approach and a roofscape above the northern valley. Allow 2–2½ hours when the upper route suits your legs. 3. Puning Temple · 普宁寺 gives you a monumental wooden Guanyin, contrasting courtyards and living Buddhist practice; allow 1½–2 hours. These are separate admissions outside the Resort wall.

Area notes; use the named gates for navigation. UNESCO groups the Resort and outlying temples as one heritage property; the practical visit still needs the correct gate and ticket at each site. Keep Hebei's coast and ski bases as separate stays if those landscapes also matter to you.

This central street base makes the Resort approach and evening food practical while keeping one bed for both sightseeing blocks. For the first morning, walk north toward 丽正门大街 and the signed 丽正门 visitor entrance; allow 15–25 minutes including crossings and finding the right admission queue.

Hilton room access and facilities

The operator lists check-in at 15:00 and checkout at 12:00, a restaurant, Chinese and Western buffet breakfast, and a 24-hour gym.

Select your actual nights and room on Hilton, read the total and cancellation deadline, and add breakfast only if the chosen rate includes it or its extra cost suits you. Send a late-arrival time if the Beijing train runs late. For an early arrival, arrange bag storage until your room's agreed access time, then spend the afternoon outside.

Choose this southern road base if its actual room offer or a rail-focused arrival suits you; budget a car to the Resort and a longer approach to the northern temples on both sightseeing days. Its Resort name identifies the destination; this property serves as a southern road base.

Buy through the linked property operator for the correct address and room dates. Carry the original passports of everyone staying; use those names on the reservation. A room reservation, successful payment and completed guest registration are separate steps. If a hotel offers a station transfer, have it name your train, pickup point, vehicle and price in the booking message. A Chengde South pickup requires a named station meeting point.

Book the three admissions with the right identity and voucher

The Resort operator recommends real-name reservation and a mainland second-generation ID-card fast gate. Use the passport routes published by the specific English products below, with the selected product's identity, delivery and cancellation terms.

Mountain Resort: a dated entry QR

Neo Resort product

On Neo's Private Tours: Chengde Imperial Summer Resort Ticket, choose the date, provide the exact passport name and number, and keep the original passport.

Issued QR delivery

The supplier says it sends an official entry QR by email; read the account's inbox and spam folder, download the issued code and scan it at the turnstile.

Its highlight also mentions passport scanning, while its detailed delivery instruction specifies the QR: bring both. If the code is missing, contact the supplier through the booking before leaving the hotel.

Ocean Resort product

Ocean Travel's Chengde Mountain Resort Entry Ticket is a second published option with QR/passport registration, an issued code in booking messages and remote gate support.

Palace inclusion

Its scope includes the main palace museum.

Either product is admission; internal vehicles, boats and the outer temples require separate purchases. Pay the final amount for the chosen date and product, which can exceed the operator's standard gate fare.

Little Potala: the original physical passport

Little Potala original passport

Neo's Little Potala Palace Ticket requires your exact passport name and number when booking, then the original physical passport at the temple gate.

Photos are not accepted

The supplier says passport photos and digital copies are not accepted.

Save its issued voucher and admission instructions offline. This product covers Putuo Zongcheng Temple; Xumi Fushou requires explicitly included admission.

Puning: mobile voucher and direct passport entry

Puning product and credential

Neo's Puning Temple Ticket on Expedia publishes a mobile voucher and direct passport entry at Puning.

Select the visit date and time, complete the traveller details under the actual passport identity, save the issued voucher and carry the original passport to the signed visitor gate. Follow the supplier's message if it asks for identity details after booking. Use the selected offer's final price and refund condition: the page's general cancellation label and displayed non-refundable offer differ.

These are three separate admissions.

Resort seasonal price

The Resort operator's price board, updated 21 July 2025 and displayed through 31 December 2026, lists Resort admission including its museum at CNY 130 for 1 April–31 October and CNY 90 for 1 November–31 March.

Resort validity

It is valid for one admission within two days.

Putuo-plus-Xumi is another product

The official CNY 80 peak / CNY 60 winter Putuo-plus-Xumi ticket is a different two-temple product and excludes Puning.

Choose an explicitly named combined product if you intend both temples.

For concessions, buy the product that actually matches the traveller and accepted document. Avoid a cheap local resident annual pass for a short international visit: access and palace inclusions differ. Fix the three dates, hotel and onward train before adding optional transport inside the garden.

Beijing Chaoyang to Chengde South, then your hotel door

Search 北京朝阳 → 承德南 on 12306 for the actual travel date, and book the reverse or onward train at the same time. The city's 24 January 2026 rail report describes this corridor; the issued ticket controls the train, fare and travel time. Select 北京朝阳站 / Beijing Chaoyang specifically; 北京站 / Beijing Station and 北京南站 / Beijing South are different terminals. From a Beijing hotel, book a taxi to the station printed on the ticket and reach its departure area 45–60 minutes before the train, in addition to the city ride.

1. Mountain Resort: palace, lakes and a choice of hills or plain

The interest is the change in scale. Start with the court's rooms and halls, then see how a sequence of islands, causeways and pavilions opens toward a broad northern plain and wooded mountains. The garden stretches well beyond the near-lake promenade. Keep your palace-and-lake section even if you later drop the farthest extension.

Entry

避暑山庄丽正门游客入口 · 承德市双桥区丽正门大街. Use this southern visitor gate for the palace-first circuit and the issued passport/QR product above. Dehui and Wanshuyuan have other access roles; a north-side entry would change the order.

Hours

The operator's standard seasonal hours are April 07:30–17:30; 1 May–9 October 07:00–18:00; 10 October–31 March 08:00–17:30. Start near opening for the full garden circuit. For planning, arrive at least an hour before closing even for a short visit; confirm that day's last entry through the operator's dated notices or +86 314 216 5020. A newer notice can change these hours.

Time and cost

5–7 hours for a chosen complete visit, or 3–4 for palace and nearby lakes. Standard admission includes the palace museum; boats and sightseeing vehicles are separate. The linked passport supplier's selected date has its own final amount.

Gate rules through 9 October 2026: the dated 2026 notice opens Lizheng and tourist entry at Dehui and Wanshuyuan at 07:00, stops Lizheng/Dehui ticket sales at 17:00 and tourist admission at 17:10. Tourists leave by Chengguan or Wanshuyuan. Chengguan's exit channel remains open until 20:00; that exit allowance does not extend the 18:00 garden-visit plan. The 06:00–20:00 entry at Dehui/Wanshuyuan is for resident annual-pass holders and excludes the palace. For 10 October onward, confirm the permitted tourist gates, last admission and exit closing time with the operator before starting.

Palace and near lakes: the essential walking circuit

1. Enter Lizheng → the open palace museum sequence around 澹泊敬诚 / Danbo Jingcheng and 烟波致爽 / Yanbo Zhishuang
2. the gardens by 万壑松风 / Wanhe Songfeng → lake paths around 水心榭 / Shuixinxie and the islands.

Compare enclosed imperial rooms with the framed water views and bridges: the quieter timber court is part of the experience, rather than a smaller copy of the Forbidden City. Follow the museum's open direction when a hall is closed.

The operator's walking routes continue toward 金山 / Jinshan, 烟雨楼 / Yanyu Tower and 热河泉 / Rehe Spring. Choose a compact lake circuit instead of repeatedly circling the same water. Pause at one pavilion, look across the lake to the next island, and use the garden map to understand the changing view before moving on. Carry water and a picnic or snack to keep your single admission for the complete circuit.

A northern plain extension or a hill view

Northern plain choice

For broad open landscape: continue toward the 万树园 / Wanshuyuan plain and the exterior of 永佑寺 / Yongyou Temple along an open signed route.

This adds distance and sun exposure.

North-circuit hotel return

End at 万树园门游客出口, then use your agreed car pickup back to 南营子大街1号; save tired legs with the car return rather than a long perimeter walk.

For 文津阁 / Wenjin Pavilion on the official longer circuit, follow that day's permitted access.

Optional mountain vehicle

For the hills: the separately sold 环山游览车 / mountain sightseeing vehicle provides a different perspective on the forested slopes and outer-temple landscape.

The vehicle seller's published route names 四面云山 / Simian Yunshan and 二马道 / Ermadao, returning toward the garden.

Before buying the vehicle

At its staffed sales point, buy the displayed operating route only after seeing the actual stops, return point and final service for that day.

Keep the paper ticket if issued; stops still require walking. No current vehicle price or final departure is quoted here.

Choose the plain walk or a hill vehicle circuit after the essential section, depending on time, visibility and energy. If no suitable vehicle is operating, the palace and lakes already make a complete Resort visit. Boats change the water-level viewpoint but add another ticket and embarkation queue; choose one only when its actual dock, landing and service leave your planned exit intact.

The exit that returns you to your bed

Short-circuit exit through 9 October

Through 9 October 2026, the signed 城关门 / Chengguan Gate exit suits the shorter circuit, followed by central streets or a licensed taxi to the Hilton Garden Inn.

North-circuit exit

For the long north circuit, use 万树园门 and its arranged ride.

Later-date gate check

For a later date, have the Lizheng staff confirm the open exit and its closing time before choosing the circuit and car pickup.

Give the driver the confirmed exit's full name and hotel address. Views toward the outer temples are a garden highlight; entering those grounds takes a separate city-road journey and admission.

2. Little Potala: climb the red terrace, then leave from its own gate

Putuo Zongcheng Temple / 普陀宗乘之庙 rewards someone interested in the progression from a small lower approach to a massive red terrace and gold-roofed upper spaces. It blends Tibetan and Han architectural forms; the climbing and elevated roofscape distinguish it from Puning's sculpture-focused visit.

Inside time

Allow 2–2½ hours, including stops on the stairs.

Own temple arrival pin

Take a licensed car from the central hotel to 普陀宗乘之庙游客入口 · 承德市双桥区狮子沟镇, the temple named on your Little Potala ticket.

The hotel, Resort Lizheng entrance and 小布达拉 visitor gate are different pins. Show the full temple name to the driver and keep the original registered passport ready at the entrance.

1. Follow the operator's route: visitor gate → 碑亭 / stele pavilion → 五塔门 / Five Pagoda Gate
2. glazed archway → lower courts
3. 大红台 / Great Red Terrace → the open upper circuit around 万法归一 / Wanfaguiyi → signed temple exit.

Look at the increasing terrace scale, the contrast of white lower walls and red upper mass, and the roofs within the upper enclosure. Use the permitted path and photography signs; enter only rooms along the permitted route.

Standard seasonal hours

The standard seasonal hours for 布达拉·行宫 are April 08:00–17:30; 1 May–9 October 08:00–18:00; 10 October–31 March 08:30–17:00.

Dated sales and entry cutoff

The 2026 gate notice specifies ticket sales until 17:00 and admission until 17:10 only for 1 May–9 October 2026.

For later dates, check the operator's dated notices or call +86 314 216 0274 for last admission. Choose a morning product slot to keep the climb and onward temple unhurried; the upper circuit needs its full 2–2½-hour allowance before closing.

The official 布达拉·行宫 ticket pairs this temple with 须弥福寿之庙 / Xumi Fushou, whose separate hall-and-terrace circuit has its own gate. Neo's published passport-ticket description explicitly names Putuo. If both are essential, obtain an issued product explicitly naming both, with its own passport instructions, and give up the Puning afternoon or add another usable period. Avoid buying a second temple entry on the assumption that every Little Potala ticket is a combo.

After descending to the signed exit, take a separate car to 普宁寺游客山门，普宁路1号, or return to 南营子大街1号 for lunch and rest. Set that endpoint before leaving the gate. People who prefer a lower-court visit can turn back before the red-terrace climb, but the main elevated roofscape will be missed; Puning is usually a better priority when repeated steep stairs are the deciding constraint.

3. Puning Temple: the great wooden Guanyin and an active monastery

Choose Puning for a sculptural interior and a working religious space. The great multi-armed wooden Guanyin / 千手千眼观音 in 大乘之阁 / the Great Vehicle Pavilion is the central stop. The Chinese-style front courts give way to Tibetan-style spaces behind; looking at that transition is more rewarding than treating every hall as a photo backdrop.

Gate

普宁寺游客山门 · 承德市双桥区普宁路1号, as located by AMap's venue record. Arrive at the temple gate shown in your issued voucher, rather than the similarly named airport or a Resort exit.

Admission

The Neo / Expedia single-site product publishes mobile-voucher and direct-passport entry. Keep both ready and follow its issued instructions. The published admission is for Puning. Use the amount and refund terms for the offer you actually select.

Open period

The ticket seller's posted period is 08:00–18:00 for 6 May–9 October; the listing does not establish a current winter timetable. For 10 October onward, confirm the temple's visit-date hours and last admission at +86 314 205 8871 before buying the selected slot. Use a booked morning or early-afternoon slot and allow 1½–2 hours inside, plus the two road legs.

1. Enter the visitor mountain gate → the front courts and open main halls
2. 大乘之阁 to see the Guanyin
3. the signed open rear courts → the temple's own exit.

Keep the centre of the route clear for people praying. Observe incense, robes and daily worship as they occur, without expecting a scheduled performance or a blessing included with admission. Follow posted indoor-camera rules; the ticket product prohibits flash photography and smoking.

The Little Potala → lunch → Puning pairing works because each temple has a different contribution and you have a separate full sightseeing period. Arrange a taxi from the first temple to the second, then from Puning back to the same central hotel; the connection runs on roads outside the Resort. The venue record gives +86 314 205 8871 for temple enquiries if a dated closure affects an already booked visit.

If the registered passport or issued voucher fails, use the booking's supplier support at the staffed gate before paying for a duplicate ticket. If admission cannot be resolved, return to your central hotel for a meal and rest, or move a booked Resort block to the available day. Do not replace your identity with someone else's mainland ID to activate a machine gate.

Food around the central base, without ordering a banquet for two

Qiaojia: savoury shared bowls and a manageable order

Try 乔家满族八大碗 / Qiaojia Manchu Eight Bowls on 流水沟路, south of the Resort-side base. AMap names this branch 中兴路店; older tourism material calls it 流水沟店.

The 2019 government-tourism profile describes generous portions and braising, stewing and steaming; use this dated account for flavour and portions, and the displayed menu for today's choices.

The attraction is deep savoury sauce, soft slow-cooked meat and substantial grain-based sides, rather than a delicate tasting menu.

An order for two

For two, begin with 满族四小碗 / four small Manchu bowls if that option is on the actual menu, or choose one shared meat dish, one vegetable and rice or 荞面饸饹 / buckwheat noodles.

Ask 这是几人份？ / How many people is this portion for? An eight-bowl feast adds both food and money; ordering it for two simply to match the restaurant name is usually unnecessary.

Read the displayed price per dish and any set's intended party size before ordering. Ask which dishes contain pork or other meat, and whether a vegetable dish uses meat stock. For a vegetarian meal, ask specifically for a meat-free dish and stock. Leave room for a small sweet rather than adding a second large main course.

Lamb soup by Lizheng Gate: a bowl, bread and the filling you want

Lao Wu branch

The restaurant platform's location record places 老五羊汤（丽正门大街店） on 丽正门大街, opposite the named bus stop.

This is a convenient position before the Resort or after a short exit, rather than a reason for a separate trip.

Starting portion

Start with one bowl of 羊汤 / lamb soup and one 烧饼 / baked wheat bread, adding more only after seeing the portion.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism's 2024 regional food account describes the local sheep-offal soup tradition: a rich, aromatic broth with a clear savoury lamb character.

Ask about offal

Ask 有羊杂吗？ / Does it contain offal? Choose the listed filling you want.

Coriander and chilli request

Request 不要香菜，辣椒另放 for no coriander and chilli separately; pepper and a strong lamb flavour may remain.

Choose another dish if those flavours are the problem, rather than expecting every broth to be changed.

For a dependable start before the long garden circuit, the central Hilton's Garden Grille offers Chinese and Western buffet breakfast. Establish its opening and whether breakfast is in your room rate the evening before. Carry water and a small snack for the garden; leave the sit-down shared meal for the central streets after you exit.

Shorten the route for rain, heat, ice or tired legs

Light rain

Light rain or low cloud: retain the palace museum and a compact near-lake circuit, and omit the mountain viewpoint. Use Chengguan Gate only while the dated exit notice applies; for visits from 10 October 2026, agree the open exit and pickup with entrance staff before starting.

At Little Potala, shorten to the lower courts if the terrace stairs are slippery; if that removes the experience you wanted, use the booked Puning slot instead and move the climb to a clearer period.

Thunder, wind or closure

Thunder, strong wind or a closed route: omit the exposed hill and Wall sections.

Follow the venue's closure rather than replacing a closed vehicle with an improvised hill climb. Move a ticket only under its actual amendment or refund terms. If no core venue is open, keep the central bed, use the hotel restaurant and a short public street walk when conditions permit, and move the main visit to a safe booked period.

Heat or limited stamina

Hot sun or low stamina: start the garden at your booked early entry, take shade and water breaks, and choose palace plus lakes without the distant northern plain.

Pick one temple; Puning's main sculpture is usually the better reason to spend limited energy than Little Potala's upper climb. A reduced visit still involves thresholds and steps. For a traveller who needs step-free access, obtain the actual permitted gate-to-hall route before choosing a product; temple terraces and thresholds still require assessment.

Winter or ice

Winter or ice: expect an earlier daylight finish and the winter operating period.

Keep to open dry land paths and stay off lake ice. If the upper temple or hill route is closed, use the open lower route or change the date. Snow and fog can remove the panorama while leaving the palace or Guanyin visit worthwhile.

One less usable day

If you lose a usable day, delete Jinshanling first, then the northern garden extension and second temple.

Keep the experience that brought you here and a complete return to your booked bed, instead of substituting rushed photographs at three gates.

4. Jinshanling needs its own return trip

Jinshanling Great Wall / 金山岭长城 adds ridge-top military architecture: dense watchtowers, changing roof forms and a wall following steep folds in the hills. It is outside the central temple-and-garden circuit.

Separate daylight day

Give it an additional full daylight day, with 3–4 hours for a chosen wall walk plus both road journeys, and return to the same Chengde bed before an onward morning.

Chengde hotel to visitor centre

Ask your hotel to arrange a licensed car from 南营子大街1号 to 金山岭长城景区游客中心 · 河北省承德市滦平县巴克什营镇花楼沟村, the government-tourism location.

Agree the full return

Agree the exact visitor-centre pickup, waiting period, return time and total including road charges and parking.

The site is west of the Chengde heritage base; book a Chengde-hotel return car, since Beijing-departure tours start in another city. The tourism page's 2018 Beijing bus information describes a historic service; use your agreed Chengde return car.

Issued QR and original passport

YaYa's Global Travel Personal Butler: Jinshanling Entry Ticket publishes an entry QR sent by booking chat and email, plus original physical passport verification with the booking name matching it.

Separate transport and cable car

Choose the actual date's amount and terms; this is entrance admission, with cable car and transport separate.

1. At the visitor centre, use the signed open ascent to the wall
2. walk an out-and-back section through a few open watchtowers
3. descend by the same open access
4. return to the agreed visitor-centre car pickup → the central hotel.

Ask the staffed entrance to mark the open ascent, turnaround and closure time on its map before setting out. This avoids an unplanned exit toward Simatai / 司马台 or a different gate. Compare the defensive openings and tower interiors with the ridge line while keeping the agreed turnaround.

Use a cable car only if its operating period, top access and return fit this same pickup; cable-car tickets are extra. In rain, thunder, severe wind or icy conditions, drop the exposed Wall outing and retain the booked Chengde core visits. Saihanba / 塞罕坝 and the Bashang grasslands belong to a separate northern road stay, with their own bed and transport, rather than this day return.

Leave from the station on your ticket

Exact rail pair

For a Beijing return, reserve 承德南 → 北京朝阳 for the actual date.

Station allowance

The evening before, have the central hotel fix the door pickup to 承德南站 and work backwards from the departure time: allow the city road journey plus 45–60 minutes at the station.

Editorial hotel departure buffer

As a planning buffer, arrange departure from the central hotel roughly 90–120 minutes before the train, increasing it for holiday traffic or the hotel's pickup advice.

Keep the passport and train details with you, rather than buried in the stored luggage.

If leaving after a morning temple, have the driver return to the hotel for bags and then continue to the correct station; count both legs before buying that temple slot.

Default hotel checkout

Checkout at the default property is 12:00.

Agree storage for a later train, collect bags before the station pickup and leave a buffer for that retrieval. Finish sightseeing before the protected departure, even when the temple ticket lasts longer.

The 2026 city rail report also describes northern links toward Shenyang and Harbin. Reserve the actual available train on 12306 for your next city and leave time for any connection. A Beijing flight requires a further transfer from the railway station to the airport printed on the flight; give that journey its own time, preferably a Beijing night when the connection is tight. Sources and scope

Original venue, supplier and hotel pages were read on 1 October 2026; the Resort's seasonal-hours boards, gate notice and notice list were rechecked on 2 October 2026. The standard price board is dated 21 July 2025 with an explicit display period through 31 December 2026. Standard seasonal opening hours are also shown in the operator's 2026 price board; the separate 2026 gate notice ends on 9 October. Confirm later gate cutoffs and exits with the operator, and Puning's winter hours with that temple. Seasonal schedules can be displaced by a newer dated notice. Agency passport instructions describe those named products, rather than every ticket sold at the same venue.

Visit lengths, hotel walking allowances, combinations, cuts and departure buffers are editorial planning advice. The research used published pages; passport purchases, payment, gate scans, hotel stays and restaurant meals were outside its scope.
